Reporting someone

If someone is behaving badly, report them. A person reads every report.

Reporting is different from blocking: blocking protects you, right now, and tells nobody. Reporting tells staff, so it can be dealt with for everyone.

How to report

In VR, while it's happening — open your radial menu ▸ UtilityReport a Player, and pick them from the list. It's sorted by who's closest, so the person in front of you is usually first.

Anywhere else — open their profile (click them in the world, or find them in the Location or Friends list) and press Report.

Then:

  1. Pick a reason. One tap. If nothing fits exactly, pick the closest — or Something else.
  2. Add a note if you want to. Optional, and genuinely optional: a reason on its own is a real report. Only add a note if there's something we wouldn't otherwise know.
  3. Send.

What gets sent

The dialog says this before you send, and it's worth repeating:

  • Your report and your note
  • The world and instance you're in
  • Their name and the avatar they're wearing right now

That last one matters: names and avatars change, so we record them at the moment you report. Otherwise "they were wearing something horrible" is unprovable ten minutes later.

They are never told you reported them

No notification, no sound, no counter, nothing. The person you report has no way to find out it was you.

What happens next

Your report goes into a queue that a human works through. We won't tell you the outcome — what happens to somebody else's account isn't ours to share — but you can always see that yours arrived, and how far it's got, under Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Your reports.

Reports are evidence, not verdicts. Nothing is automatic: there's no "three reports and you're out", because that would just be a way to gang up on someone. A person decides, every time.

Blocking is not reporting

They solve different problems, and you'll often want both — which is why the confirmation screen offers Block and Mute the moment your report is sent.

What it does Who it helps
Block You stop seeing and hearing them; they can't interact with you You, immediately
Mute You stop hearing them You, immediately
Report Staff are told, with evidence Everyone, eventually

Blocking someone doesn't stop you reporting them. Block first if you need to — that's the natural thing to do — then report from their profile whenever you're ready.

Please don't flood it

There's a limit on how many reports you can send in an hour and in a day. If you hit it, you'll be told clearly, and everything you already sent is still in the queue.

The limit exists because reporting is itself something that can be abused — mass-reporting somebody to try to get them in trouble is its own kind of harassment. It won't work (a human reads them), but it does waste the time of the people who'd otherwise be reading real reports.

What you can't report yet

Reporting a world or an avatar as content isn't in yet — right now you report the person. If a world or an avatar is the problem, report whoever put it there and say so in the note.
