Aegis¶
Aegis is Social Scape's creator‑first content protection. Every avatar and world you upload is protected by default, so your work can't simply be lifted out of a cache folder and reused. There's nothing to switch on — Aegis just works in the background.
What Aegis does¶
With Encrypt on (the default on every upload), Aegis:
- Protects it before it leaves your machine. Your avatar or world is encrypted on your computer — the unprotected file never reaches our servers, the network, or anyone else.
- Keeps it protected everywhere it rests. It stays encrypted in storage and in every player's local cache, so the file on a player's disk is useless to typical model and scene rippers.
- Only unlocks to play, never to keep. Aegis handles the unlocking securely during gameplay, without leaving a usable copy of your content on disk for someone to grab.
Spot it at a glance
Worlds and avatars protected by Aegis show a teal AEGIS badge in the browser, so players can see which content is protected before they even open it.
No cost to you — or your players¶
Aegis is invisible. Protected assets load exactly like unprotected ones — no extra wait, no quality loss, no impact on gameplay. Players never notice a thing; they just can't walk off with your work.
On by default — but your choice¶
The Encrypt this asset option is ticked by default on every upload, so Aegis is on unless you turn it off. Leave it on unless you have a reason to publish something openly — for example a template or kit you want others to reuse — and you can change it on any re‑upload. See Avatars and Worlds.
Straight talk about the limits
No platform that has to show your content — not games, not streaming services, none of them — can make it impossible to capture: if a screen can render it, a determined and highly skilled person can in theory keep working at it. What Aegis does is raise the bar dramatically — it stops the simple "copy the cache file and reuse it" method that virtually all asset theft relies on. In practice, your work stays far better protected.
